A way to associate sounds of the environment to pleasant musical events is to perceive their mental images, hence visualize beyond the audible. The parallel correlation of space, time, and rhythm in environment’s sound and images is evident but takes practice to achieve. For one thing noise pollution is the result of humans not listening to the environment, and ignoring the deviations they create with the assorted sounds of technology fused with sounds of nature. The consequence of such an approach is a negative view toward environmental acoustic. We need to learn to listen and visualize the images of sounds around as to learn which one to preserve, and multiply. This is an aggregate of scientific discipline with artistic imagination. Muted Multiplicity (May 11th to 18th, Room 106 Wurster Hall) Thesis works by Amir Soltani, is an effort to create visual art work specifically to achieve a musical score, where can be translated to real sound. Next time you hear a noticeable sound in your environment try to imagine how it would look like on paper. |
